What is search engine optimization (SEO)?
SEO is form of marketing that focuses on increasing organic visibility in the search engine results.
In order to be good at SEO, you need to have technical knowledge of SEO.
You also need to think outside of the box and be creative in order to increase traffic, rankings, and most importantly, conversions.
It may sound easy, but it’s not!
There are many facets to SEO, from the quality of content, to the art of gaining backlinks, to the ability to go viral, just to name a few.
Carrying out SEO is not simply making a website SEO friendly for search engines.
No,no,no my friend, there’s more to it than that.
It’s also about making a website that’s user friendly.
This guide to SEO is deigned to explain all the aspects of SEO: Keyword research, increasing traffic, creating a website that is both user and search engine friendly, building good links, and social sharing, are some of the areas described.

Does my website need SEO?
All websites need SEO, it’s as simple as that.
The vast majority of traffic stems from the big search engines, like Google and Bing.
Social media can also bring visitors to your site, but nonetheless, most traffic on the web comes from search engines.
The great thing about search engines is that it can bring the ‘right’ traffic to your site.
By ‘right’, I mean targeted traffic. The type that will spend money on the product or service you are offering.
Search engines are key in any internet marketing campaign, and anyone with a website should know about how they can use SEO to increase their sales.
Search engines have the ability to find your website, and add it to their huge database (indexing) .
They can then present your web page in the search engine results page (SERPs), when a relevant search query is made.
If the search engines can’t find your website, it would be like shouting in an empty forest, no one will be able to hear you.
No one will visit your site, and you will lose a lot of money.
And we don’t want that do we?
The power of search queries
Search queries are the words that are put into a search box.
Having the ability to understand what your customers put into the search is crucial if you want your business to attract targeted traffic.
This targeted traffic can help increase your brands visibility and popularity, as well as make you a lot of money in the process.
This is one reason why I love SEO.
It is a marketing discipline like no other. Becoming a SEO expert can lead to a great return on your investment, in comparison to any other marketing discipline.
Can search engines find my website without SEO?
Search engines are very complex and smart. They’re getting more sophisticated by the year, but they still need help from webmasters.
One of the main jobs of the search engines is to crawl a site, and then to present the web page to the user when they make a relevant search.
Having said that, search engines still have their limitations.
On the other hand, a good SEO can not only increase your traffic and brands visibility. But they can also potentially net you millions, depending on your budget, and the size of your business.
Aside from making your website available to search engines, SEOs can also increase your rankings.
This means more people (potential customers) can see what product/service you are offering.
The internet is getting bigger and bigger, and businesses are relying on it to get their business that extra attention.
Knowing and applying SEO, can significantly increase your chances of increasing your businesses visibility, as well giving you the edge to beat your competition.
Can I do SEO for my own website?
The SEO industry is complex, but it does not mean you can’t get to grips with the fundamentals of SEO.
After all, even a tiny amount of knowledge about the industry can make a huge difference.
There’s plenty of information about SEO on the web, and this beginner’s guide to SEO should set you in the right direction.
